Samurai & Ninja - The mantra

Greetings! May this post be blessed and all those who read it be blessed! This first post will describe a concept called the Tech Samurai and the Tech Ninja. The term "Tech" is used in this case but the concepts can be applied to politicians, religion practitioners, doctors, or even parents.

  • Samurai - Those who model themselves explicitly on the historical samurai of Japan. They closely adhere to an ethic of loyalty to their "master" and to disdain the contemptable practices.
  • Ninja - A member of a class of 14th-century Japanese mercenary agents who were trained in the martial arts and hired for covert operations such as assassination and sabotage.

The martial arts attributed to both of these are effective.

There are people who are more effective with a Ninja approach to whatever they do. Whether they are security practitioners or web administrators, they are good for getting the job done swiftly and often leaving no clue as to how they did it.

And then there are those who care about "the code" and ethics and high moral standards. These we call Samurai. The samurai also "get the job done." But they do so with a certain style that is repeatable and operationally sustainable. They document as they go. They try to perfect what they do, every time. They seek perfection, rather than swift completion.

This site will be used to speak from one of these perspectives.

Peace be with you!
